ThermageŽNXT-The Next Generation
Dr. Wieder has recently been featured on the LA Times entertainment website discussing and using the newest generation of Thermage. To see the treatment performed, please visit http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/

This revolutionary technique uses radiofrequency waves to heat the collagen in the skin and tightens the skin without any incisions or recovery time. Our patients are seeing subtle tightening of their skin after only one treatment. Some people see results as soon as a few weeks after the treatment, but most require 3-6 months to see the maximum result. Although it does not replace what you may see with a surgical facelift, it does produce significant skin tightening. Our patients are thrilled with the subtle, yet significant changes without the need for surgery, anesthesia or any downtime.

Skincare for Kids In Need
Wieder Dermatology is proud of its association with Skincare for Kids in Need (S.K.I.N.), a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Wieder's daughter and run by his 2 children and wife. S.K.I.N.'s mission is to help build the self-esteem of teens who reside in the group homes in Los Angeles by providing skin care education, products and dermatological medical care. S.K.I.N. works with the manufacturers of professional skin care products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to facilitate donations of their products for these young people. We are honored to work especially close with Dermalogica on this project.

S.K.I.N. then delivers the products to these selected homes, and also works with specific manufacturers to share educational information about skin health and care. S.K.I.N. conducts fundraising to purchase additional products that are needed by the teens, such as scar medicines. In severe cases, Dr. Wieder may provide dermatological services at no charge to the facility or to the recipient.

The most important part of any good skin care routine is sun safety. Remember these tips:
  • Generously apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 to all exposed skin. "Broad-spectrum" provides protection from both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Extra UVA protection can be found in products containing helioplex or mexoryl. The newest formulations of Anthelios by Laroche Posay are now available for sale in the US. For more information, contact our office.
  • Wear protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, where possible.
  • Seek shade when appropriate, remembering that the sun's rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If your shadow is shorter than you are, seek shade.
  • Protect children from sun exposure by playing in the shade, using protective clothing and applying sunscreen.
  • Get vitamin D safely through a healthy diet that may include vitamin supplements. Don't seek the sun.
  • Avoid tanning beds. Ultraviolet light from the sun and tanning beds can cause skin cancer and wrinkling. If you want to look like you've been in the sun, consider using a sunless self-tanning product, but continue to use sunscreen with it.
  • Check your birthday suit on your birthday. If you notice anything changing, growing or bleeding on your skin, see a dermatologist. Skin cancer is very treatable when caught early.

Cosmetic Treatments
Just FDA approved, Dysport is an alternative botulinum toxin to Botox. It will be available shortly here in the U.S. but has been safely used since the early 1990s in Europe and the United Kingdom. It has slightly different properties from Botox. Contact our office for more information.

Evolence is one of the newest fillers available, having been FDA approved in 2008. It is the next generation collagen that integrates within the skin to fill moderate to deep facial folds and wrinkles. It is felt to last up to 12 months and sometimes longer. Unlike previous collagens, this one does not require a pre-treatment skin test. We have been seeing excellent results with this product. It causes a minimal amount of bruising and swelling, making it an ideal filler before a big event or appearance.

Please call our office for more information. www.evolence.com

Latisse (bimatoprost 0.03%) is a new prescription product used to grow eyelashes, making them thicker, longer and darker. LATISSE™ works gradually and remarkably - starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks. Once you begin treatment, you could start to see results in as little as 4 weeks, but you must continue applying the topical treatment each night and follow the directions for best results. Remember results are gradual over time.

Latisse is now available in our office. Please call for more information. www.latisse.com
