We have been using the Thermacool™ by Thermage
since June of 2003
. This is the revolutionary technique that uses radiofrequency waves to heat the collagen in the skin and tightens the skin without any incisions or recovery time. Our patients are seeing subtle tightening of their skin after only one treatment. Some people see results as soon as a few weeks after the treatment, but most require 3-6 months to see the maximum result.
Although it does not replace what you may see with a surgical facelift, it does produce significant skin tightening. Our patients are thrilled with the subtle, yet significant changes without the need for surgery, anesthesia or any downtime. In 2006, the technique was approved for 2 new indications: Eyes by Thermage and Body by Thermage. Treating the upper eyelid is an easy addition to full face treatments. Our patients have been uniformly thrilled with the results, often times seeing immediate tightening. Treatment of the eyelid area smoothes and tightens the skin and decreases wrinkles and hooding without surgery or downtime. The smoother skin makes application of make-up easier. Body treatments can be performed on numerous areas including abdomens, legs, upper arms, hands and even buttocks skin. The subtle tightening seen on the face is reproduced on non-facial skin.
This is a non-surgical device that provides predictable tightening of the skin without any downtime, bruising or incisions. It is now indicated not only for treating the skin of the face and eyelids, but the body as well. The technology works by protecting the top layers of the skin with a cooling spray while the radiofrequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. The heating causes immediate skin contraction and, over time, new collagen grows to further tighten the skin. The results appear gradually over 2-6 months. Treatments take approximately 30-90 minutes based on the areas treated. Mild redness may occur after the treatment and usually lasts only 30 minutes to one hour.
Advances in the technology have produced newer treatment tips which are both less painful and cover a larger area per pulse. This translates into a more tolerable procedure. Recent data suggests that using lower energies in a multiple pass technique can provide even more tightening with less discomfort. Continued research has led to the development of new tips to provide even more tightening on the face (STC tips) as well as to tighten the deeper layers on the body (DC tips).
